Project Overview: Redefining the Row House
Situated on the NH-58 bypass in Meerut, Rajkamal Residency is a 5-acre gated group housing development that redefines the "Row House" typology through a blend of affordable modularity and long-term flexibility. Completed in 2016, the project accommodates 114 dwelling units — not as static boxes, but as homes designed to evolve alongside their residents.

The Concept of "Built-in Growth"
The defining architectural philosophy of Rajkamal Residency is expandability. Recognizing that the needs of a family change over time — a child grows, an elder moves in, a home office becomes essential — the smaller units (ranging from 700 sq. ft. to 1800 sq. ft. villas) were designed with a high ratio of un-built to built space.
This strategic "void" within the plot allows homeowners to extend their living areas vertically or horizontally — without compromising structural integrity or the aesthetic harmony of the streetscape.

Architectural Language & Massing
The project employs a clean, contemporary geometric vocabulary — uncluttered, simple and unmistakably intentional.
• Staircase Articulation: One of the most striking visual features is the externalized, stepped staircase profile seen in the 3-bed duplex units. This "sawtooth" geometry adds a sculptural quality to the facade, creating a rhythmic play of light and shadow that shifts with the movement of the sun.
• Horizontal Continuity: Deep horizontal bands in a warm cream and beige palette tie the individual row houses together, creating a sense of a unified community rather than isolated blocks. The street reads as a composition, not a collection.
• Fenestration: Dark-framed windows with traditional grid patterns provide a sharp contrast to the light-coloured masonry. Meanwhile, square "cut-out" motifs on the balcony railings and boundary walls echo the project's modular theme — a quiet visual thread that runs through every detail.

The Unifying Idea Rajkamal Residency is proof that affordable housing need not mean static housing. The philosophy of "Built-in Growth" — a high ratio of un-built to built space — gives residents the freedom to expand as their lives expand. The externalized, stepped staircase profiles give the facade its sculptural identity. The deep horizontal bands and warm cream-beige palette give the community its visual coherence.
Completed in 2016, this project remains a model for expandable, community-centric row house design — where the home is not a finished product, but a work in progress, just like the families who live in it.

“A home should not be a finished product. It should be a platform — for growth, for change, for life. At Rajkamal Residency, we designed the platform. The residents design the rest.”
