Dr Rashmi Baluja Tandon is an architect, academician, researcher, and Founding Partner of AE Studio, with over two decades of experience spanning architectural practice, teaching, and institutional leadership.
She holds a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from CEPT University and a Doctorate from the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), Delhi, one of India’s premier institutions. Her doctoral research, “Framework for Quality in Architectural Education for Undergraduate Programs in India,” reflects her sustained engagement with improving academic standards, pedagogy, and quality assurance in architectural education in India.
As Founding Partner of AE Studio, Rashmi has been central to shaping and sustaining the studio’s ethos of “Conscious Architecture”—an approach that places people, context, and responsibility at the heart of design. Her role extends beyond design leadership to include strategic management, project review, monitoring, and quality control, ensuring that every project aligns with the studio’s core philosophy. She actively steers design thinking, oversees conceptual clarity, and maintains rigorous standards across projects, while nurturing a practice culture that values ethics, inclusivity, and human-centric architecture. Her work consistently emphasizes the importance of people’s architecture, where built environments respond meaningfully to social, cultural, and environmental realities.
Rashmi’s academic journey includes more than 21 years at Vastukala Academy, Delhi, where she progressed from Lecturer to Professor and Coordinator (Academics). She played a significant role in curriculum development, academic governance, faculty mentoring, and studio-based teaching, mentoring over a thousand architecture students. In recognition of her contribution to architectural education, she received the Best Teacher Award (2024) from the A3 Foundation, Chandigarh.
Parallel to her practice and academic engagement, Rashmi has pursued doctoral research and institutional leadership, creating a strong symbiosis between theory and practice.
Rooted in gratitude and guided by purpose, Rashmi continues to serve the profession and the nation by shaping thoughtful architecture and future-ready architectural education.
